Declaration on accessibility

Status: June 2025

Studierendenwerk West:Brandenburg is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continuously improve usability for all and apply the appropriate accessibility standards. This declaration on digital accessibility applies to the website published at www.stwwb.de. As a public body within the meaning of Directive (EU) 2016/2102, we endeavour to make our website and mobile applications accessible in accordance with the provisions of the Brandenburg Disability Equality Act (BbgBGG) and the Brandenburg Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BbgBITV) for the implementation of Directive (EU) 2016/2102. According to Section 2 BbgBITV, websites and apps are assumed to be accessible if the requirements of the harmonised European standard (EN) 301 549 (in the current version) are met. EN 301 549 refers to the requirements of the international standard Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) with conformance levels A and AA. These requirements form the core of the testable success criteria.

Efforts to support accessibility

Studierendenwerk West:Brandenburg takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:

  • Accessibility is part of our internal guidelines.
  • Accessibility is integrated into our procurement practices.
  • There are clear goals and responsibilities for accessibility within the organisation.

Type of audit: external (accessibility audit according to EN 301 549/WCAG 2.1); the website was assessed by an external organisation not involved in the design and development process

Content that is not accessible

Despite our efforts, some problems may occur for users. This is a description of non-accessible content:

  • Alternative texts for control elements: Not all graphic control elements and linked graphics have meaningful alternative texts.
  • Labelling of headings and lists: There are visually recognisable headings and lists on the page that are not labelled as such in HTML. As a result, not all users are able to see the content, allocate it to one another and access it in a targeted manner. This can make orientation difficult, especially for screen reader users.
  • Form, search and input fields: Form fields are not sufficiently labelled. The autocomplete attribute is not always stored in the source code of forms.
  • Sequence of page content: During screen reader navigation in read mode, visually hidden content is read aloud even though it was not requested.
  • Colours and contrasts: The contrast ratio of the text colour and the control elements to the background colour is not sufficient in all places.
  • Change text size: When enlarging the text using the browser's zoom function (browser window size 1280 x 768 pixels), sections of text, links and buttons are sometimes cut off (highlighted) or overlaid and therefore cannot always be read.
  • Keyboard operability and focus: The sub-items of the main menu and certain control elements cannot be accessed or operated using the keyboard. They are therefore not accessible to users who are dependent on keyboard operation of the page. Keyboard users can no longer or only poorly recognise the focus and may lose their orientation.
  • Error labelling for entries: Incomplete or incorrectly completed mandatory fields are only labelled in the form by the browser's standard error handling.
  • Specification of states for the elements: If elements can assume different states, the current state is not always output to assistive technologies, such as screen readers (e.g. news carousel).
  • PDF documents: Not all PDF documents comply with accessibility requirements.

Please contact us if you have found content that is not accessible and is not listed here.

We are working on making the web content and documents more accessible in the future.
