Changes for students with part-time jobs

New regulations affecting part-time jobs alongside studies have been in force since January 1, 2026. These include adjustments to the minimum wage, BAföG credit, mini-job limits, and tax allowances.

Minimum wage

The statutory minimum wage is now €13.90 per hour.

BAföG: additional income not counted towards BAföG

The limit for income not counted towards BAföG has been adjusted. Now, up to €603 gross per month from employment can be earned without being counted towards BAföG (previously €556).

Mini-job: new earnings limit

The monthly earnings limit for mini-jobs is now also €603 (previously €556). With statutory family health insurance, a mini-job can usually be arranged in such a way that family health insurance remains in place.

Tax allowances

The basic tax-free amount for 2026 is €12,348 per year. Anyone below this limit does not have to pay income tax. The child allowance has been increased to €9,756.
