Submit your BAföG follow-up application to avoid funding gaps

Easy and secure online at BAföGdigital.

Is your current BAföG approval period coming to an end? Then now is the right time to submit the follow-up application. The end date of the current funding period can be found on your last BAföG notification.

To ensure continuous support, the follow-up application should be submitted no later than two months before the approval period expires.
The easiest and most convenient way to apply is online at BAföGdigital using digital Form 9. Missing documents can also be submitted later through the application assistant or via the BAföGdigital app.

Login tip:

Using a BAföGdigital user account is still possible. However, it is recommended to log in via the BundID account using your electronic ID card. This makes access to government online services easier and more secure. Digitally submitted documents are transmitted securely and directly linked to your case.
For security reasons, emails with attachments cannot be forwarded to caseworkers and will not be processed.

Important to know:

Applications using printed forms are still accepted. However, if submitted by post, you cannot upload documents later via the app or the digital assistant.

Did you know? The 2024 BAföG reform offers several improvements

With the reform introduced in autumn 2024, student financial support has been further improved:

  • Increased allowances (+5.25%)
  • Higher support rates: basic need now €475, housing allowance €380
  • Mini-jobs remain exempt up to €556
  • Funding now includes one flexibility semester in addition to the regular study duration
  • Simplified subject changes possible up to the 5th semester
