Who pays what? - Three price categories in the canteen from August 1, 2025

The new price categories at a glance

• Category 1: For students of all state universities affiliated with Studierendenwerk West:Brandenburg (also available to students from the area covered by Studierendenwerk Berlin under a cooperation agreement)

• Category 2: For university employees (with appropriate proof)

• Category 3: For external guests – an additional allowance is charged here, which varies depending on the location (see price overviews below for details)

Payment in the canteen: Fast and contactless wherever possible

Payment options vary slightly depending on location, but our common goal is to ensure fast processes and short waiting times.

Our recommendation: Pay cashless

• In all canteens, cashless payment is possible and preferred depending on your status group – this reduces waiting times for all canteen guests.
• At the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF and TH Wildau, only cashless payment is possible.
• At all other locations, cash payment is also possible
• Exception - University of Potsdam: As there are no employee ID cards with payment function in circulation there, this group of people can only pay in cash. The employee ID card must be presented in order for the category 2 price to be calculated. University members who have previously used a Mensa Card can continue to do so – please note, however, that the price for external guests (category 3) will be charged automatically.
• External guests can pay with the Mensa Card.
